2025 Board of Education with Student Board Representatives

Dear Richmond Parents and Community Members,

January marks School Board Appreciation Month, a time to celebrate and honor the incredible contributions of the seven dedicated members of the Richmond Community Schools Board of Education – Candess Cunningham, Sandra Fortuna, Sarah Gillies, Deborah Michon, Raymond Stier, Danielle Sutton, and Margaret Teltow.

These individuals selflessly dedicate countless hours to ensuring that every student in our district receives the highest-quality education possible. Their unwavering commitment to our schools, staff, and students forms the foundation of the success and excellence we strive for at Richmond Community Schools.

Our Board of Education plays a vital role in shaping the future of our students and our district. From establishing policies and managing district finances to approving curriculum to be taught in the classroom, their responsibilities are essential to creating a culture of achievement, growth, and belonging for all. Over the years, their leadership has guided critical initiatives, including transformative projects funded by the 2019 bond, which have significantly improved our facilities and helped us fulfill our mission to empower students for a global community.

In addition to their leadership, our board members demonstrate a deep commitment to ongoing growth and learning. Through regular training with the Michigan Association of School Boards, they continuously enhance their effectiveness, staying informed on best practices to serve our district at the highest level. Their dedication, collaborative spirit, and ability to reflect the voice of our community are qualities I deeply value as your superintendent. I encourage everyone in our community to join me in expressing gratitude for their service and leadership.

This month, I would also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to our Board of Education student representatives, Joseph Pacitto and Elizabeth Schafer, for their exceptional contributions.

Joseph and Elizabeth serve as inspiring advocates for the student body, bringing passion, insight, and dedication to every board meeting. Their active participation ensures that their peers’ voices are heard and considered in shaping the decisions that affect our schools. Their leadership and commitment to improving the educational experience for all students are both admirable and inspiring.

As we celebrate School Board Appreciation Month, let us come together as a community to show our appreciation for the tremendous work of our Board of Education and our student representatives. Their leadership and advocacy play a vital role in ensuring the continued success of Richmond Community Schools and its students.

With heartfelt gratitude,
Brian J. Walmsley, Ed.S.
Superintendent
