School Bus Safety

Bus safety is very important for students who ride the school bus to and from school and school-related activities. Richmond Community Schools follows the state and federal guidelines for school bus safety and has a team of qualified and trained bus drivers and staff.

  • Arrive at the bus stop at least five minutes before the scheduled pick-up time and wait in a safe and orderly manner.

  • Stay away from the road and do not approach the bus until it has come to a complete stop and the driver has opened the door.

  • Board the bus in a single file and use the handrail. Find a seat quickly and sit facing forward. Keep your backpack and other belongings on your lap or under the seat.

  • Follow the instructions of the bus driver and the bus monitor (if present). Do not distract the driver or cause any disturbance on the bus. Respect the rights and property of others.

  • Remain seated and buckled up until the bus reaches your destination and the driver tells you to get off. Do not stand up or move around while the bus is in motion.

  • Exit the bus in a single file and use the handrail. Look both ways before crossing the street and walk at least 10 feet in front of the bus. Never cross behind the bus or run after the bus if you miss it.

In compliance with these bus safety rules, students can ensure a safe and enjoyable ride to and from school. Richmond Community Schools encourages parents and guardians to review the bus safety rules with their children and to report any concerns or issues to the transportation department. Together, we can make bus safety a priority for our school community!
