I am highly qualified to teach K-12 Visual Arts Education at all K-12 levels. I am currently teaching Basic Design at the high school and K-4 art at Lee.
Bachelor of Science, Textile and Apparel Studies, Western Michigan University 2008
Post-Baccalaureate Teaching Certificate, K-12 Art Education, emphasis in photography, Oakland University 2013
I began teaching in 2013. This is my 2nd year teaching art in Richmond. I also taught art in L’Anse Creuse at Chesterfield, Yacks, Graham and Lobbestael Elementary Schools before becoming a Blue Devil.
Why did I decide to teach art? I believe that art teaches students how to experiment, problem solve, gain confidence, explore and discover the world around them. I love watching my students light up with excitement when they mix a new color or try something new they’ve never done before. I enjoy showing them some of the masters like Van Gogh or Matisse but I also like for them to see contemporary artists using traditional materials in new ways.
Outside of the classroom
In addition to my teaching duties I am involved with the Michigan Art Education Association and I am also the Sophomore Class Sponsor. In my free time I enjoy going to the movies or out to dinner with my husband, playing with my one year old Bernese Mountain Dog named Biggs and working as a family, newborn, senior portrait, and engagement photographer.
